Why We Run in 2026

For over two decades, Kids of Africa has gathered thousands of Ugandans to run for causes that matter — from sanitation to menstrual health. This year, we are taking on the biggest challenge yet: Gender-Based Violence.

An estimated 95% of women in Uganda have experienced some form of gender-based violence. It is not a distant statistic. It is your neighbour. Your colleague. Your family. It is happening in homes across Uganda right now.

And the shelters that protect survivors? They are closing. One by one, as international funding dries up, Uganda’s GBV sanctuaries are shutting their doors — leaving women and children with nowhere safe to go. We run because they need us to.

Your Support Keeps Doors Open.

When international donors pull out, local partners must step up. Will you? Uganda’s GBV shelters are closing. Women and children who have fled violence are being turned away. Your donation or sponsorship goes directly towards keeping these shelters open — and giving survivors a fighting chance.

100% of all funds raised go directly to the cause. Not one coin is retained by Kids of Africa as an organisation. Funds are allocated across two pillars: GBV Shelter Sustainability and GBV Prevention in Communities.

Our Implementing Partners

All funds raised through the Fun Run will be channelled through two trusted, established organisations with deep roots in Uganda’s GBV response ecosystem:

UWONET — Uganda Women's Rights Organisations Network

A national network with direct relationships with GBV shelters across Uganda, ensuring funds reach the shelters that need them most.

Umoja Women

A grassroots organisation with proven experience in women’s empowerment, survivor support, and GBV community response.

Your legs can change a life.
