About the Kids of Africa Fun Run

Over two decades of community.
Over two decades of cause.
This is what we stand for.

Where It All Began

The Kids of Africa Fun Run began over a decade ago with a simple but powerful belief: that ordinary people, running together, can create extraordinary change. What started as a community gathering has grown into a highly anticipated annual fundraising event — bringing together thousands of runners, corporate partners, families, and organisations united by purpose.
Every year, the Fun Run is tied to a pressing cause — a real problem in Uganda’s communities that needs real resources and real attention. Over the years we have championed sanitation, menstrual health, and access to resources for young women in rural Uganda, reaching over 5,000 girls through sanitary health training programmes funded by this very run.

In 2026, we pivot to our most urgent cause yet: Gender-Based Violence and the survival of Uganda’s GBV shelter network.

About Kids of Africa

Kids of Africa / African Children’s Village is an established NGO operating across Uganda and Switzerland. For over two decades, we have provided orphaned and vulnerable children with what every child deserves: family, education, safety, and a future. We are Family. That is not just our tagline — it is our commitment to every child, every survivor, and every community we serve.

The Crisis No One Is Talking About

Gender-based violence affects an estimated 95% of women in Uganda. It is not a rural problem or an urban problem. It is everyone’s problem. Most people reading this know someone who has been affected — a sister, a mother, a friend, a colleague. Uganda currently has approximately 24 GBV shelters — safe havens where survivors can flee violence, access medical care, receive psychological support, pursue legal justice, and rebuild their lives.

These shelters are not just emergency stops. They are full pathways to recovery: offering food, housing, skills training, and a route to financial independence so survivors never have to return to danger.

But these shelters are closing. The withdrawal of international funding from Europe and America has triggered a funding crisis. Shelter after shelter is shutting its doors. The women who need them most are being left without sanctuary.
The Kids of Africa Fun Run 2026 exists to change that.

Your legs can change a life.
